FAQ

Frequently asked questions about secure remote working

How do you secure remote working in a Swiss SME?

Securing remote working relies on several complementary layers: encrypted VPN access, multi-factor authentication, centralised device management, endpoint protection and employee awareness. At 1SWISS1, we deploy all these layers in an integrated manner, adapted to the size of your organisation.

What is the difference between a VPN and a virtual desktop (VDI)?

A VPN creates an encrypted tunnel between the employee's device and your corporate network — they access internal resources as if they were in the office. A virtual desktop (VDI) goes further: the workstation itself is hosted in the cloud, meaning data is never stored on the local device. VDI is more secure but also more complex to deploy — we help you choose the solution suited to your needs.

Is remote working compatible with the obligations of the Swiss nFADP?

Yes, provided the solution is correctly configured. We ensure that all our remote working solutions comply with the nFADP — data encryption, access control, access traceability, hosting in Switzerland or Europe on request. We also help you draft the remote working policy and associated documentation.

How do you manage employees' personal devices (BYOD) when working remotely?

Thanks to MDM (Mobile Device Management) solutions, we apply security policies to personal devices — encryption of company data, conditional access, ability to remotely wipe only company data — without touching the employee's personal data.

What happens if an employee loses their laptop while working remotely?

Via our endpoint management platform, we can lock the device or remotely wipe all company data as soon as the incident is reported — within minutes. The data is also automatically backed up to the cloud, so no information is permanently lost.

Is Microsoft 365 sufficient for remote working or do you need an additional solution?

Microsoft 365 is an excellent base for remote collaboration — Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint. But it must be complemented by access management (MFA, conditional access), endpoint protection (EDR) and a VPN or VDI solution for access to internal resources. We configure this entire ecosystem coherently.

How long does it take to deploy a secure remote working solution?

For an SME of 10 to 50 users, a standard deployment generally takes between 1 and 3 weeks — initial audit, access configuration, agent deployment, team training. We can accelerate the timeline in urgent cases. The transition is planned so as not to disrupt your operations.
